The Swinger is a shape I designed when I wanted a surfboard to have some of the benefits of the fish ( good paddler, easy speed from wider nose and planing area, good across the flats sections and weaker waves ) but needed the turning of a high performance shortboard, so I went about blending the design elements to create a board that does just that, and 'The Swinger' was born. There is definitely some inspiration and influnce from the stingers of the 70's but these are generally all-rounder type boards, they ecel in a shifting and sectiony beachbreak wave. In these conditions, the wider nose and flat rocker creates alot of speed and then whe you turn off the tail, the board turns tight and hard so it really is the best of both worlds. Mostly done in quad -round tail combos but have done thrusters with good results too but they are all custom designed so anything is possible if it is going to fully functional for its owner. The flyer is placed so it has no negative effect, people think it would get in the way but it does not, its all positive with this different looking shape. This one is for the surfer who is all about FUNction and not as concerned by the looks, and once you have been a swinger, its hard to go back....,

Everybody wants to be a swinger

Here is a link to a Swinger review

And another review

This is the first Swinger I did, its dims are 6'2 1/2" x 20 1/2" x 2 1/2" , thruster , rounded square tail, single to double concaves. It was almost exactly the nose and tail of my 2 favourite boards at the time of designing it. The board went really well and I knew the design had a stack of potential after only 3 or 4 waves, no hangups, no problems or weirdness like you might expect, I was stoked to know this design was a winner.....

SWINGIN IS FUN! - words by Surfer in pics, Alex ( Bonzie ) . Pics by Don Norris

The Swinger is one of those boards you just cant get your head around when you look at it, but believe me it is a huge performance advancement on the quad-fin semi-fish design. Its more complex than just two boards stuck together, its a clever combination of design elements and reconfiguring of volume. You have all of the flat planing area, volume up front, and quad fins for stacks of drive and glide over flat spots. You also have all of the curves and tail release to surf it hard and tight to the pocket, giving you the best blend of a semi-fish and a high performance board. This board absolutely loves long fast walls or a punchy point wave, but will keep its flow through weaker sections and smaller beach waves as well. I have been surfing this board 80-90% of the time since I've had it. I reckon anyone that likes surfing shorter wider quads who also like to surf tight to the pocket will absolutely love this board. I'll be getting this board copied exactly when it dies (god forbid), I haven't surfed any board like it.-

This is the Swinger that really is a special board, I have leant this board to 6 guys and 4 have ordered one after riding it ( and one of that 6 still has it and is considering ordering one soon ), thats not BS either, it just is a great board with everything working well together. Its dims are 5'11" x 20 1/2" x 2 1/2" , its a round tail quad with single to very deep double thru the fins, rails are super soft and forgiving to the flyer and then hard and edgy after it. There's alot going on in this design but I got it right with this little baby, its a board I wont ever sell, thats for sure.....

This is one of he boards that were ordered after he rode my 5'11". This one is very similar with a bit of volume added to suit the customer. There weren't any changes to the shape because the other one went so well, why fix it if it isnt broken ??? This customer loves this board and surfs it most days on the Northern Beaches of Sydney....

I have been doing Swingers in alot of different lengths, from as short as 5'7" to as long as 8'8" and all seem to go well, this design theory almost seems logical to apply to longer boards, here is a few pics of an 8'8", 8'0" nd a 7'0".....

Here are some boards from 8'8", 8'0" and a 7 fter
